No trip to Kure Beach is complete without a stop at the Kure Beach Fishing Pier. Stretching 711 feet into the Atlantic Ocean, this historic pier has been part of the community since 1923 and remains one of Pleasure Island’s most recognizable landmarks.

Whether you're ready to cast a line, take an evening stroll, grab an ice cream, or simply stand over the water and enjoy the view, the pier offers a little bit of that classic beach-town nostalgia everyone should experience at least once.

Fishing from the Pier

You don't have to be an experienced angler to enjoy fishing from Kure Beach Pier. Its location over the Atlantic makes it a popular spot for both locals and visitors, and you never quite know what might be biting.

Daily fishing permit: $5
A separate fishing license is not required when fishing from the pier
Permits are valid from midnight to midnight
Up to three rods are permitted for fighting, anchor, and bait use
Alcohol is not permitted on the pier

More Than Fishing

You definitely don't need a fishing rod to enjoy the pier.

Rising approximately 26 feet above the ocean, the pier offers beautiful panoramic views of the Kure Beach shoreline and Atlantic Ocean. Take a walk to the end, watch the fishermen bring in their catches, or stop by around sunset when the temperatures cool and the beach begins to quiet down.

Depending on the season, visitors can also stop into the Pier House for bait and tackle, browse the gift shop, play a few arcade games, or grab a classic beach-day ice cream.

The atmosphere is casual, nostalgic, and family-friendly exactly what you'd expect from one of Kure Beach's most beloved gathering spots.

The pier sits right in the heart of Kure Beach, making it an easy stop while exploring the island. Grab a bite nearby, walk along the beachfront, and then head onto the pier for a little ocean air.

Its central location also makes the pier a perfect stop on your way to or from Fort Fisher and the attractions at the southern end of Pleasure Island.

Head to the pier early in the morning or around sunset for one of our favorite Kure Beach experiences. Mornings are great for watching the anglers and enjoying a quieter shoreline, while evenings bring cooler breezes and beautiful coastal views. Even if you don't plan to fish, take the walk out—you'll get a completely different view of Kure Beach from over the water.
