Pleasure Island Greenway

Explore the Island Beyond the Beach

There’s plenty to love about Carolina Beach beyond the shoreline. The Carolina Beach Island Greenway offers an easy, scenic way to get outside and explore another side of the island whether you’re walking the dog, going for a morning run, taking the kids for a bike ride, or simply looking for a change of scenery.

Beginning near Mike Chappell Park, the paved, off-street trail winds through a quieter stretch of Carolina Beach, connecting neighborhoods and outdoor recreation areas while keeping you away from much of the traffic along the island’s main roads.

What to Expect on the Greenway

The Island Greenway features a paved path approximately 10 feet wide and extends south from Mike Chappell Park for about 1.2 miles.

Designed for both pedestrians and cyclists, the route makes it easy to enjoy the outdoors at your own pace. It's a great option for:

  • Morning walks or runs

  • Family bike rides

  • Walking your dog

  • Getting in a little vacation-day exercise

  • Exploring beyond the beach and boardwalk

Because the trail connects with Mike Chappell Park, it’s also easy to combine your Greenway adventure with a stop at the playground, dog park, sports courts, or other park amenities.

Know Before You Go

A few quick rules will help keep everyone safe while using the Greenway:

  • Children 15 and younger must wear a helmet while biking.

  • Bikes ridden after dark must be equipped with a light.

  • Cyclists must obey posted traffic signs and signals.

  • Walk your bike when using a crosswalk if you want to be treated as a pedestrian.

  • Motorized vehicles are not permitted on the Greenway.

  • Keep an eye out for cyclists and other trail users, especially at crossings.

Bring Your Pup

The Greenway is a particularly easy outing for guests traveling with dogs. Bring a leash and some water and enjoy a walk away from the busier beachfront areas. Pair it with a visit to the dog park at nearby Mike Chappell Park and you’ve got a pretty solid afternoon planned for your four-legged vacation buddy.

Vesta Tip

The Greenway is perfect for those mornings when you want to get moving before hitting the beach, or evenings when you’ve had enough sun but aren’t ready to call it a day. If you're staying nearby, skip the car altogether, bring some water, and enjoy one of Carolina Beach's quieter outdoor spaces.

Staying in Carolina Beach? Choose a Vesta vacation rental as your home base and spend your stay exploring the beaches, parks, trails, restaurants, and local favorites that make Pleasure Island worth experiencing beyond the oceanfront.
